Topic: "The Power of Women in Career, Home and Community"

Barbara J.Easterling, an Akron native, has truly inspired women everywhere, and is well known for her advocacy in the causes for women's rights and human rights in the United States and around the world. Her distinguished career encompasses serving as the first woman secretary-treasurer of the Communications Workers of America in Washington, D.C., and the first woman in history as secretary-treasurer of the AFL-CIO. She has received countless honors during her career, and is an avid supporter of many national charitable organizations and initiatives. She currently serves as President of the Alliance for Retired Americans in Washington, D.C.
